Check dark, humid resting places
Use a flashlight along walls and curtains, then look under furniture, around sinks and showers, inside open closets, and near the laundry area. Public-health guidance identifies these as common indoor resting spots.
Wait for a landing
Chasing a mosquito through the air usually makes it harder to track. Keep it in sight, wait for it to settle on a clear surface, and use a swatter, tissue, or a cup and stiff card. Avoid striking glass, screens, lamps, or electronics.
Use moving air while you search
A fan aimed across where you sit can reduce bites while you wait. It is protection, not a substitute for finding entry points or removing breeding water.
If you use insecticide, read the label first
Choose a product labeled for indoor adult mosquitoes and follow every direction. Do not improvise mixtures or spray near food. Foggers and some aerosols can require people and pets to leave and fish tanks to be covered until the stated return time.
Prevent the rematch
Repair window and door screens. Once a week, empty and scrub vases, flowerpot saucers, buckets, and other containers that hold water. Indoor spray alone will not keep a home mosquito-free.
